OWNRYDE DRIVER INSURANCE POLICY REQUIREMENTS

OwnRyde, Inc. — Private Membership Transportation Platform
Version 1.0 — Effective January 2025

All Driver Members must maintain valid insurance that meets or exceeds OwnRyde’s insurance requirements. Transportation may only be provided on the Platform when proper coverage is active.

OwnRyde does not provide vehicle insurance to Driver Members or Rider Members. Drivers are fully responsible for maintaining the correct policy type at all times.

1. Mandatory Insurance Requirements

To operate on the OwnRyde Platform, Driver Members must maintain:

  • A valid personal auto insurance policy and
  • A rideshare endorsement, or commercial auto coverage, or for-hire / livery insurance (as required by state law)

Insurance coverage must:

  • Be active and valid
  • Be issued in the Driver’s name
  • Cover the vehicle used on OwnRyde
  • Meet or exceed state minimum requirements
  • Be clearly uploaded within the app

Expired, incorrect, or missing insurance will result in immediate suspension.

2. Accepted Coverage Types

2.1 Personal Auto Insurance + Rideshare Endorsement

This coverage is accepted in many states and extends:

  • Liability protection
  • Property damage coverage
  • Coverage during ride pickups and drop-offs
  • Coverage when the app is active

2.2 Commercial Auto Insurance (Livery Insurance)

Commercial insurance may be required or recommended in states that classify private transportation as for-hire.

This coverage typically includes:

  • Higher liability limits
  • Passenger injury protection
  • Coverage while driving for compensation
  • Professional-grade risk protection

2.3 For-Hire Vehicle Insurance

In certain states or cities, for-hire insurance is required for:

  • Airport transportation
  • Car services
  • Shuttle or black car operations

This may be mandatory for airport pickups such as PDX, depending on local regulations.

3. Minimum Liability Coverage Requirements

Driver Members must carry at least the minimum liability coverage required by their state.

OwnRyde strongly recommends the following minimums:

  • $100,000 per person
  • $300,000 per accident
  • $50,000 property damage

Higher coverage limits help ensure member safety and platform trust.

4. Document Submission Requirements

Driver Members must upload the following documents:

  • Insurance ID card
  • Full Declaration Page (required)
  • Policyholder name
  • Vehicle year, make, and model
  • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
  • Policy expiration date

All uploaded images must be:

  • Clear and legible
  • Unedited
  • Fully visible and not cut off

5. Ongoing Insurance Verification

Driver Members are responsible for:

  • Updating insurance before expiration
  • Maintaining continuous coverage
  • Replacing canceled or expired policies immediately
  • Notifying OwnRyde of any policy changes

OwnRyde may re-verify documents, request updated declarations, or confirm coverage directly with insurers.

6. Insurance During Ride Activity

Period 1 — App On, Waiting for Ride

  • Driver’s policy must provide liability coverage
  • State-required minimum protection must apply

Period 2 — Ride Accepted, En Route to Pickup

  • Rideshare endorsement or commercial coverage must apply

Period 3 — Rider in Vehicle (Active Trip)

  • Liability coverage
  • Passenger injury coverage
  • Property damage coverage
  • Accident involvement protection

OwnRyde does not provide supplemental or secondary insurance coverage.

7. Insurance Lapses

If a Driver’s insurance policy:

  • Expires
  • Is canceled or suspended
  • Loses rideshare endorsement
  • Fails payment

Then:

  • Driver account is immediately suspended
  • All upcoming rides are canceled
  • New proof of insurance must be submitted

Driving privileges will not be restored until re-verification is complete.

8. Towing, Roadside, and Mechanical Issues

All towing, roadside assistance, and mechanical issues are the sole responsibility of the Driver Member.

OwnRyde does not provide or pay for:

  • Tow services
  • Flat tire repairs
  • Roadside assistance

Fraud will result in permanent removal, reporting to authorities, Stripe account restrictions, and potential legal action.

10. Airport-Specific Insurance Requirements

Certain airports may require:

  • Higher liability coverage
  • Commercial or livery insurance
  • Special endorsements
  • Printed permits or decals

OwnRyde may provide guidance, links, and instructions; however, Drivers are fully responsible for obtaining and maintaining required permits.
